I remember being in High school, going to the Library ( yes, those days there were no Google, Pinterest or Smartphones) to get as much information on different body shapes and face shapes. Back then, I was a bit more rounded in my face and having a pointy chin, I believed for a lot of years that I had a Heart shaped face.
Until I dived deeper into the different shapes and realized that I was wrong all along. I’m actually a Rectangle. And according to the guidelines for a Rectangle, I’m not supposed to have volume on my head and my hairline must not be shorter that my jawline. But, if you look at my hairstyle, I broke both of those rules.
So, YES, its nice to know what dominant Face shape you have more or less ( I say more or less, because you can not be boxed. Some of us have a combination of two face shapes). The bottom line is: know the guidelines, but don’t loose yourself within that. If you have an adventurous personality and love short, funky hair. Cut your hair, but do keep in mind the fact that you create balance with your hairstyle.

Before you start, tie your hair back, and pull your hair off your forehead so you can see your entire face. Ask yourself the following questions:
QUESTION 1: LENGTH of face vs WIDTH of face
Is my face A LOT LONGER than it is wide?
Is my face A BIT LONGER than it is wide?
Is my face JUST AS LONG AS IT IS WIDE?
QUESTION 2: Look at the SIDES of your face
Is it STRAIGHT?
Is the widest part my CHEEKBONES?
Is the widest part my FOREHEAD?
Is the widest part my JAW LINE?
QUESTION 3: What shape is my JAWLINE
Is it ANGULAR?
Is it PIONTY?
Is it ROUNDED?
Look at the different answers from each question to find your dominant shape:
RECTANGLE FACE SHAPE
LENGTH: your face is a lot longer than it is wide
SIDE: your face is straight at the sides
JAWLINE: your jawline is angular
OBLONG FACE SHAPE
LENGTH: your face is al lot longer than it is wide
SIDE: your face is straight at the sides
